According to reports from CNN and other media outlets on March 26th, four US soldiers went missing during exercises in Lithuania. After the incident, the US Department of Defense, NATO, Lithuania and other parties quickly responded, and search and rescue work is being carried out intensively.
US Department of Defense spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed in a post on social platform X on the 26th that four US soldiers went missing during an exercise in Lithuania and search and rescue efforts have been launched. Subsequently, US Defense Secretary Hagibis forwarded the post and stated that four soldiers went missing during "tactical training". The US will continue to search until the soldiers are found and pray for the relevant personnel.
On the NATO side, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte hinted earlier on the 26th that the missing soldier had died, but the US military stated that this has not been confirmed yet. Afterwards, NATO spokesperson Hart issued a statement on social media that evening clarifying that the search and rescue was still ongoing. What Lute referred to were new news reports, not confirmed information about the missing persons, and the current status of the soldiers is still unknown.
According to a report by the Associated Press on March 27th, the US Army's European and African Public Affairs Department issued a statement stating that the four soldiers, belonging to the 1st Brigade of the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division, went missing near the city of Pablad in eastern Lithuania near the Belarus border, and were participating in tactical training at the time of the incident. At present, the "Hercules" armored vehicle they were riding in has been found to have sunk in the water, and the US military, together with the Lithuanian military and civilian organizations, are carrying out salvage work.
On the evening of the 26th, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense stated that no missing soldiers have been found and the relevant investigation work has been officially launched. Lithuanian President Nauseda posted on social platform X that the search for missing American soldiers is still ongoing.
In addition, according to media outlets such as The Guardian on the 26th, US President Trump stated that he has not yet received a briefing on the disappearance of US soldiers in Lithuania. When asked by reporters about the matter, Trump responded with "no".
